UNESCO verifies Iran Arasbaran nomination dossier

UNESCO has initially approved Iran’s Arasbaran protected area dossier as a candidate for inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage list.

UNESCO has verified nomination dossier of Iran’s Arasbaran protected area to be inscribed on the World Heritage list, sending the proposal for evaluation.

PR office for Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization told the media on Tuesday that the international body transmitted the dossier to the UNESCO advisory body, World Conservation Union (IUCN).

According to the office, an official attached to the CHHTO said in a meeting that two research stations will be established by the advisory body in the historical villages of Iran’s East Azarbaijan Province.

International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) is an international, non-governmental organization that provides the World Heritage Committee with technical evaluations of natural heritage properties.

According to UNESCO’s official website, Arasbaran, situated in the north of Iran and bordered by Armenia and Azerbaijan, has "a rich flora (about 1000 taxa) and fauna" with 78,560 hectares of the region registered as a biosphere reserve.
